In the winter time, our lack of appropriate storage becomes especially obvious as the heaps of coats begin to pile up. They casually are hung over our dining room chairs, build up on the coat rack and jam together as one in our coat closet. Oh, our coat closet. This lucky space also doubles as a pantry. Granted, it is large enough to house both; however, between 2 people that have a lot of coats (or at least a husband that does) and now adding a baby with her own assortment of attractive outerwear, the time was upon us to do something about this storage conundrum. Big word.
I have drooled over and wanted wooden lockers (seen throughout the pages of Pottery Barn) for our sunroom/mudroom. I thought this would be a great solution to help house the coats we tend to wear everyday, purses, bags, etc. But for the price you would have to pay for the Pottery Barn version and the fact they were not even built in and there would be a lot of dead space between the top of the lockers and the ceiling, I began to fantasize about a built in locker or cubby system in our back room. And, as luck would have it, this year was the year that my dream would become a reality.

The shelf below the bench seat is 2 levels and the 2nd level/shelf is actually not as deep as the main shelf - as this can allow for boots or higher shoes than your basic flat or tennis shoe.
And our little Soph modeling:
And now painted white and how they look today (we still need to trim our hats/gloves/etc. in the baskets above as they are currently over flowing!):
We think they turned out great and they are exactly what I envisioned. The carpenter did a great job making my vision a reality!
But that's not all...I have big, big plans for our new mudroom. Eventually we plan to move our office upstairs and the current office in the basement will become Sophie's playroom. Some favorite pieces that I would love in our office space:

I am dying for this bookshelf for the future playroom - storage galore! Which is all I can really think about these days, especially with Christmas approaching! Storage!!
